Why Twitter Will Play a Great Role in The Events of 2012

No doubt, Twitter has flattened the world like a pancake. Never in the history of the world has a single tool made it so easy for folks word-wide to connect, engage, and share knowledge and Information. The year, 2012 will be a defining year in many ways. Not less than 59 countries of the world including Russia, USA, China, France, Kenya  and many others will be holding elections. Twitter will play a critical role in these elections in determining the winners.

Twitter Power

In 2012, Twitter will be at the centre of learning, business and social networking.  I expect this tool to gain more acceptance, increased usage and attention by governments, news organizations, learning institutions and businesses. In 2012 and beyond, I expect Twitter to be a useful source of Intelligence for businesses and governments. Large businesses and security agencies will enhance their listening and monitoring capabilities as they try to gain more value and remain on top of what is being said. Listening and monitoring applications will gain more traction and usage.

This is not to say that other social networks will not grow, but there is a special and unique way that makes Twitter more pre-eminent and prolific.  Twitter is incredibly powerful in amplifying messages. It is viral and simple to use. It gives everyone a voice.

I expect that the noise in Twitter will not decrease but increase.  Influencers – those with huge number of followers will be more sought-after, as people try to gain control of what is said. I also expect Twitter to come under intense pressure to control and minimize the spam bots.

What do you expect this year?
