How Faithful are you in Giving tithes in church?

I’ve come to discover that alot of people profess the christian faith but are not faithful in giving tithes.  Do you give your tithes correctly and consistently? Do pastors give tithes appropriately?

Is tithe paying a requirement for christianity? If so, could you please show scriptures to support it.

    thanks

Leviticus 27:30 ‘And all the tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land or of the fruit of the tree, is the LORD’S. It is holy to the LORD.

Sorry bro, you still haven’t shown any evidence from scripture that it is a christian requirement. The scriptural reference you have provided showed that it was requirement of the law, which was binding on the jews.

It further states that tithes were paid from the produce of the land ie seeds and fruits. It never mentioned money and there is no place in the bible where one was told to tithe money.

Tithing is definitely not a requirement for today’s church. It is expressly stated in scripture.

There are biblical traditions that aren’t expressly mentioned in the New testament (or the bible) but they exist today and some existed in the Old testament. For example, There is no express biblical law that commands Christians to have a wedding. But this is a tradition today as it was in the times of Jesus. Also, you can win an ideological argument over an issue, but you cannot change the time-tested truth that God exists even though no one has ever seen or met with God.

Ah! So are you putting tradition over the word of God? if the tradition is not mentioned in the bible how can it be called biblical? And you seem to be avoiding the issue. We are not talking about the existence of God, neither is the legality of a wedding the topic of discussion. You have equated tithe paying with christianity and I have asked you to show me where it is in the bible. Am having a hard time reconciling your response to the question.

If you study biblical interpretation, its difficult to interpret the bible without understanding the context and tradition of the subject.

You still have not answered the question. you being quite vague with your responses

Biblical exegesis is a critical explanation or interpretation of the Bible. The goal of Biblical exegesis is to find the meaning of the text which then leads to discovering its significance or relevance.
Traditionally the term exegesis was used primarily for exegesis of the Bible. However in contemporary usage exegesis has broadened to mean a critical explanation of any text, secular or religious. Source: Wikipedea.

I like your questions but clarify your question again.

Hey bro, I give up. You just say stuff you know nothing about!

“I’ve come to discover that alot of people profess the christian faith but are not faithful in giving tithes. Do you give your tithes correctly and consistently? Do pastors give tithes appropriately?”

Why are you finding it difficult to support what you have written with scriptural references?

    Anyways am out! Thanks

There are no specific scriptures that say that you must give tithes. Thats a fact. Christianity is all about believing. If you don’t believe in giving tithes, others do. Its just like no where in the bible that says Christmas must be celebrated on 25th Dec, or that the day of worship is Sunday. These are things that are traditionally practised but do not have scriptural backing. I know what am talking about. I respect your views and we do not have to agree about everything, especially ideologically.

  • http://eliteinchrist.wordpress.com Tony Isaac

Hey bro, you are indeed right that we may not agree on everything but the truth of the matter is that tradition and man made doctrines have successfully distorted the message of the cross. It is not really about what I believe but it is about what the bible says. Men over time have portrayed their personal convictions as God’s Word and this has wrecked a lot of lives and shipwrecked a lot of faiths.

If I portray my personal opinion as God’s word it makes me a crook. This doctrine of tithing has brought about a lot of contention within the body of Christ. People are made to feel guilty for not paying tithes whilst the bible does not require it. People have been kicked out of churches because of it. If it is not expressly commanded in the scriptures then why do we peddle it?

I am not opposed to giving in church, but am opposed to this cutthroat extortion technique. All that the New Testament prescribes is that one should give what one can afford and does not stipulate a certain percentage.

Please I am not having a go at you, am only pained by the destruction this false doctrine has inflicted on the lives of many Christians. Christ has delivered us from the curse of the law; we are no longer obligated to keep the law because we are in a new dispensation where we justified by faith and by faith alone.

It is one’s relationship with God that counts. God bless you sir.

I hear your point. The issue of tithing and giving is very contentious and remains to be one of the most distorted issue in the bible. Some clergy have extorted their followers & become very rich especially here in Nairobi.
Personally my honest opinion is that you get blessed based on what you’ve given voluntarily, generously & out of love without pressure or duress. That is why the bible says that It is better to give than to receive (Acts 20:35), and God loves a cheerful giver (2 Cor 9.7). Also, A generous heart will prosper (Prov 11:25).

I appreciate your frankness in ventilating your opinions. That’s the purpose of this blog. Also, everyone is entitled to his opinion but not to his facts.
